The city of Chehalis seeks community input at first open house event

Help shape the future of historic downtown Chehalis

The Imagine Downtown Chehalis Project, led by the City of Chehalis with support from Experience Chehalis, is hosting an informational open house event on Tuesday, June 4 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Mint City Coffee Roasters in downtown Chehalis.

Exciting transformations await historic downtown Chehalis as the city embarks on a multi-year project to revitalize its public infrastructure. The project will reconstruct Market Boulevard, Washington and Pacific Avenues, and Boistfort Street in historic downtown. This comprehensive effort includes enhancements such as upgraded sidewalks, optimized traffic flow, improved roadways, and enhanced lighting.  The goal is to create a safer and more welcoming streetscape, fostering a sense of community and supporting economic prosperity.

The public is invited to engage and share perspectives.  Your valuable input throughout 2024 will shape the final decisions, ensuring that downtown Chehalis meets the needs of its residents while becoming a safer, more accessible, and cohesive hub for businesses, locals, and visitors. This open house serves as an important opportunity to align citizen priorities with the envisioned renovations.

The community is invited to learn about preliminary design options at the open house event. The project is seeking feedback from the public regarding their experiences downtown and how to best improve safety, accessibility and connectivity. City and project staff will be available to answer questions and share information regarding project goals, funding and timeline.

There will be numerous opportunities over the next year for the community to express their priorities, including additional open houses and surveys. In addition to the open house event, project staff will be available to speak with the community and answer questions earlier in the day during the Chehalis Farmers Market from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
