Clean streets, roadways, parks and walkways are important to a thriving and welcoming community.  It is with this intent that Experience Chehalis launches the Chehalis Clean Team effort.  The program has been developed to address the growing concern of litter and unwanted trash in public spaces and encourage community participation to assist in keeping Chehalis clean.

A group of engaged volunteers and the energy behind an April Earth Day Community Clean-up event was motivation for the local Main Street program to organize year-round opportunities to participate in litter pick-up.  “Volunteers were excited to be a part of a larger effort, to make a tangible and visible difference,” said Annalee Tobey, Executive Director.  “We want to give citizens the support they need to keep our community clean.”

Safety vests and litter pickers/claws can be borrowed from the Lewis County Historical Museum and Veterans Memorial Museum, who have partnered in this community effort.  Trash bags are also available at the two museums, provided by Lewis County Solid Waste.  Volunteers will also be provided a safety information sheet on best practices for littler pick-up and must sign a safety liability waiver to borrow supplies.

Once litter bags have been filled, the City of Chehalis Facilities Department will dispose of the bags.  Volunteers can call the city at 360-748-0271 x6 and leave a message including name, phone number, location of bags, and number of bags filled.  The city crew will be picking up bags twice a week on Mondays and Fridays.

“We invite individuals and community groups to join the Chehalis Clean Team efforts,” stated Tobey.  “Keeping our city clean is a team effort, and we want to provide opportunities to make volunteering safe and rewarding.”
