Downtown restrooms get a facelift
The Chehalis Community Renaissance Team* was pleased to grant a $25,000 donation to the City of Chehalis to renovate and reopen the restrooms in Downtown Chehalis. The discussion was to either demolish or renovate the restrooms which were closed due to vandalism. The availability of downtown public restrooms is important to CCRT. The remodel included all new indoor facilities, a new roof, entry ramp, and the bus shelter was walled in and a small garage door installed to house the downtown street sweeper.
In addition to new amenities, the restroom now also features two brand new murals. Produced by local artist, Emily von Flotow, this public artwork was created to celebrate community attractions and attributes. The mural on the Market Boulevard side features the local Chehalis-Centralia Railroad & Museum’s 1916 steam locomotive, the St. Helens Hotel, and flora and fauna native to the area. The parking lot facing side features the farmer’s market and a scene of folks enjoying downtown.  Paint for the project was graciously donated by Sherwin-Williams in Chehalis.
This artwork represents the spirit of our community and is an example of the wonderful projects that can be created out of strong partnerships.
