Color! Chehalis Activity Book & Walking Tour for Kids

Kids can color their way through Chehalis!

Now kids can color their way through Chehalis and learn more about the community they call home.  Experience Chehalis (formerly named the Chehalis Community Renaissance Team) has illustrated a free 16-page activity book that depicts many of the historic buildings and landmarks in downtown Chehalis.

Color Chehalis! an activity book and walking tour for kids, begins with a fun map of downtown Chehalis outlining eight walkable locations in the downtown area.  Flipping through its pages children can color pages featuring Chehalis buildings and landmarks and read about the history of these special places.  Several activity pages with Chehalis-themed crossword and word search puzzles are also included.

The idea behind Color Chehalis! is to provide education about the history of Chehalis teaching them fun facts they might not know about their downtown.   It also complements CCRT’s popular Historic Downtown Chehalis Walking Tour Guide, as a version for kids to enjoy.  “We want to spark children’s interest in their own home town.  Chehalis has a remarkable history and we want our kids to take pride in their community,” said Annalee Tobey, executive director.

In order to create the book, CCRT enlisted the help of several local artists.  “We can’t thank our local creatives enough for their participation in this project.  Our CCRT Design Committee took this idea and ran with it.  They had as much fun putting this together as the kiddos will have coloring it,” said Tobey.  Artists’ photos and bios are highlighted inside the book.  We thank Emily von Flotow, Irisa Kennedy, Jason Mattson, Sara Light-Waller, and Thomas Sutley for their original artwork. Special thanks also to Michele Gallagher for the project inspiration and activity puzzles, and to Sara-Light Waller for the coloring book layout.

The activity book is being distributed throughout the community.  Pick up a free copy at any of Chehalis’ museums, the library, or at businesses in downtown Chehalis.
