Imagine Chehalis: A Downtown Chehalis Rejuvenation Plan

The City of Chehalis is developing a downtown rejuvenation plan that will enhance streetscapes and public spaces, improve accessibility and safety, and preserve the historic charm of the downtown area.

What is a rejuvenation plan?

A rejuvenation plan is intended to express the long-term vision for your downtown. This process will provide guidance for continued development while preserving Downtown Chehalis’s history and unique sense of place. Some of this guidance may include recommendations for improvements to infrastructure, traffic and pedestrian circulation, community events, and parking. This plan will help the city secure grants for future development and is intended to guide final design implementation as funding becomes available.

Schedule

This project began in February of 2024 and will continue through February of 2025. The process begins with a visioning phase gathering input from the community. Concepts will be developed through the summer based on the feedback received during the visioning phase. Additional outreach events will be held towards the end of summer and early fall to share and refine those concepts. A final plan will be presented in early 2025.

The City of Chehalis Seeks Community Feedback at First Open House Event

The Imagine Downtown Chehalis Project, led by the City of Chehalis with support from Experience Chehalis, is hosting an informational open house event on Tuesday, June 4 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Mint City Coffee Roasters in downtown Chehalis.

Exciting transformations await historic downtown Chehalis as the city embarks on a multi-year project to revitalize its public infrastructure. The project will reconstruct Market Boulevard, Washington and Pacific Avenues, and Boistfort Street in historic downtown. Downtown rejuvenation project begins: First ‘Imagine Chehalis’ open house held, survey now available online

Experience Chehalis, in partnership with the City of Chehalis, officially launched its Imagine Chehalis initiative and began gathering public input during an open house event on Tuesday, June 4.

The gathering was held inside Mint City Coffee Roasting in downtown Chehalis.

Imagine Chehalis is a downtown rejuvenation project aimed at repairing and improving the downtown area while preserving the city’s history. The project was set in motion last January when the Chehalis City Council approved a contract with HBB Landscape Architecture of Seattle to act as the project consultant.

The specific area Imagine Chehalis covers includes Market Boulevard, Washington and Pacific avenues, and Boistfort Street.

Improvements currently being considered include sidewalk and lighting upgrades, better roadways and optimized traffic flow through the downtown area.

Tuesday’s open house was held to begin gathering public input from those who live, work or shop in downtown Chehalis on how they feel the area should evolve in the future.

Downtown rejuvenation project moving forward after Chehalis City Council approves contract, entering design phase

A new downtown rejuvenation project is set to begin after the Chehalis City Council approved a contract on Monday, Jan. 22, for HBB Landscape Architecture from Seattle to act as a consultant and begin the community engagement and project design phase.

The project’s scope will look at possible improvements to downtown Chehalis’ infrastructure, including streets, sidewalks, streetlights and parking, according to Chehalis Public Works Director Lance Bunker.
